AI visibility for roofers in Australia
After the storm, they ask AI who fixes a leaking roof. Are you on that list?
Storm work is urgent, expensive and given to whoever answers first. People now ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews who is available, and the assistant hands them a short list of names and numbers.

Nothing records this. Your analytics can only count the people who arrived.
This is what the assistant actually answers
Real ChatGPT answer
"my roof is leaking after the storm in Penrith, Sydney. Who should I call?"
"If the damage is significant or unsafe, call NSW SES on 132 500. For a roofer to make a permanent repair, these local options are currently showing as open: [Business A], 24-hour availability listed. [Business B], Penrith, 24-hour availability listed. [Business C], Cambridge Gardens."
The assistant sent them to the SES first, then named three roofers, and what it sorted on was whether each one listed 24-hour availability. That is a field on a profile, not a claim on a homepage.
We asked ChatGPT this question and quoted the answer. The business names are removed: they did not ask to appear here, and the point is the shortlist, not who was on it that day.
Now try it for your suburb
Open ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode (Gemini) and ask it this:
my roof is leaking after the storm in [your suburb]. Who should I call?
Read the businesses it names. If yours is missing, the rest of this page is about why, and what you can check today.
One answer is a glimpse, not a measurement. We wrote up how to check properly in about twenty minutes, with the questions to ask and a way to score the answers.
Why AI cannot see your business
AI assistants do not read your whole website and work your details out from the text. They work to a budget and pick up facts that are already stated plainly, skipping pages they would have to reason through. So what decides the answer is not how much you have written, it is how easy your key facts are to read.
- Structured data. Schema.org LocalBusiness states your name, address, hours and services in a form a machine reads directly, without parsing your prose. If your site does not carry it, an assistant either pieces your details together from other sources or leaves you out. The Foundation Audit tells you whether yours is present.
- Facts an assistant can lift. A page that states the answer in its first sentences can be quoted. A page that buries the same facts inside long marketing copy gives the model nothing easy to take, so it reaches for a source that is quicker to read. The Foundation Audit flags where your key facts are hard to find.
- Your Google Business Profile. For local questions, assistants lean on your Google Business Profile, because it is already structured and standardised. A complete, recently updated profile is the easy answer they reach for. The paid audit checks yours.
Why this is happening now
Google rolled out AI Overviews across Australia in October 2024, and added AI Mode, its full AI search experience, in October 2025. Both answer the question on the page rather than only listing links.
Access is becoming a setting rather than a given. Cloudflare now sorts AI crawlers into three kinds, Search, Agent and Training. From 15 September 2026, for domains newly onboarded to it, Agent and Training bots are blocked by default on pages that carry ads, while Search crawlers stay allowed.
The point is not that you are blocked today. It is that whether an assistant can read your site is now a switch, and most owners have never seen it.

What the Foundation Audit shows
The Foundation Audit reads your business's site the way an AI crawler does and reports, in plain language: whether your structured data is present and correct, whether your key pages can be read without JavaScript, and whether an AI assistant is being blocked from your site. You get your own numbers, not a general claim about roofing businesses across Australia. Live testing in ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, with the competitors they name instead, is part of the paid audit.

Questions about AI search for your business
Storm season gives us more work than we can take. Why would AI matter?
Storm season is a few weeks. The rest of the year, a roof repair is a considered purchase and the customer builds a shortlist before ringing anyone. If the assistant does not have you, you are not on it, and you never find out you were compared.
Does this replace our SEO?
No. It is a measurement, not a retainer. It tells you what a machine can and cannot read on your site today. If someone already does your SEO, the report is something you hand them, in numbers they can act on.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will start recommending us?
No, and anyone who promises that is guessing. What we can do is find the technical reasons an assistant cannot read or trust your site, which in most cases are fixable, and measure whether that changes over time.
How these answers get made
The same machinery picks the shortlist for every trade, yours included. These guides explain it without the jargon.
How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my business?
You do not need any tools or logins to find out what AI assistants say about your business. You need twenty minutes, the right questions, and a way to score the answers so one lucky result does not mislead you. Here is the whole method, step by step.
Why ChatGPT recommends your competitor, not you
Ask an AI assistant to recommend a plumber, a cafe or an accountant in your area, and it will name a handful of businesses. If yours is not one of them, that is not bad luck. Here is what the answer is actually built from.
What is an AI visibility audit?
A regular SEO audit asks whether Google can rank you. An AI visibility audit asks a newer question: when a customer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for a recommendation, are you in the answer? Here is exactly what one checks, and what it can and cannot promise.
